About Cayucos
Cayucos is a picturesque village located along California State Route 1, between Cambria on the north and Morro Bay on the south. The Chumash people were the original inhabitants before European contact and many descendants still live, work and raise their families in the region. The word “Cayucos” gets its name from the Hispanicization of a Chumash word for the kayak or canoe, which was used by the Chumash to fish the bay. The village name came from the 1842 Mexican land grant, Rancho Moro y Cayucos.
The village has population of around 2600 and is a popular destination for Central Coast locals and visitors. The town is the location of the annual Cayucos Sea Glass Festival held in March. The festival draws artisans, vendors, and guests from all over the region. The Cayucos State Beach, many shops and restaurants make the quiet town a pleasant get-away for a day or longer.
Things to do in Cayucos include hiking, exploring tide pools, shopping, dining and more.
